Volunteer for Pakistan is built around a simple idea: Pakistan has an enormous reservoir of people willing to contribute their time, knowledge and skills, while schools, communities and organizations across the country face needs that this expertise could help address.
We are beginning by exploring practical ways to connect the two. Rather than creating opportunities simply for the sake of volunteering, we start with genuine needs and seek to mobilize people with the right knowledge and experience to respond. Our approach is simple:
We begin with needs identified by schools, communities and partner organizations, focusing on areas where volunteer expertise can make a meaningful contribution.
We bring together volunteers whose knowledge and experience are relevant to the challenge.
Volunteers work alongside local partners, combining professional expertise with local knowledge and experience.
We start on a manageable scale, learn from experience and refine promising approaches before taking them further.
Our aim is to start small, learn and grow organically, gradually developing approaches that can create meaningful and lasting social value.
Volunteer for Pakistan is being developed as a platform through which volunteer expertise can respond to a range of social needs. We have chosen education as our first area of focus so that we can start with a clear purpose, learn from experience and build our model gradually.
Within education, we are particularly interested in teachers as a leverage point: strengthening one teacher's knowledge and skills can positively influence many students over time.
We are beginning with teacher professional development, but our aim is to develop a more integrated approach. Alongside strengthening teaching and classroom practices, we want to help teachers develop the knowledge and skills they need to support the broader development, safety and well-being of their students.
Our emerging model brings together:
Volunteer for Pakistan does not need to hold all of this expertise within the organization. Our role is to bring it together.
Volunteer for Pakistan will seek to bring together educators and specialists from different fields to help develop and deliver these resources. We will begin on a small scale, learn from experience, and gradually build an integrated teacher-development model that can be adapted to different school contexts. By connecting this expertise with the needs of schools and communities, we aim to turn people's willingness to volunteer into practical social value.
